William Morrison (Chicago): A Toast
Albumen Cabinet Card, 1895
Morrison operated out of nine studios at various times between 1875 and 1900. He is best known today for his theatrical portraits. This proto-modernist study is something of a mystery: did it represent the key moment in a long-forgotten drama? Or was it commissioned by someone seeking an opulent party invitation?
