A Note to AOL Users
America On Line (AOL) does not always provide web pages to its users directly from the website. Often, pages are downloaded and stored in AOL’s own computers, then sent to users from there. When the pages are stored by AOL, graphics are “compressed” so they will take up less space in AOL’s computers.
We’ve learned that some of our graphics are coming through this compression process with strange color bands and bits of other items mixed in. This problem only affects AOL users.
The simplest solution is to download Netscape or Internet Explorer and launch it after logging onto AOL.
Otherwise, this is what we’ve been advised:
1. AOL users should click on “My AOL” if they have Version 4.0, or “Members” if they have Version 3.0
2. Locate “Preferences” and find “Web Graphics” or “Internet Properties”
3. UNcheck the box marked “Use Compressed Graphics.”
4. Select “Advanced” in the “Preferences” box and Purge (Clear) the Cache.
If this does not work or you need help, please call AOL Technical Support and tell them you want to see web graphics without added compression.
We work hard to make our web images clear and faithful to the originals, and feel that every visitor is entitled to a quality experience.
Our Webmaster’s Office has general suggestions for better viewing, and a place to eMail bug reports.
PLEASE CLOSE THIS WINDOW WHEN DONE… AND ENJOY YOUR VISIT TO THE MUSEUM!
