Maurice Rambert was a multi-talented man. In addition to his work as a radio pioneer, he was at various times a railroad builder, a lawyer for a Paris bank, a musician and composer, and a theater director.
In this attractive composition, the beauty of the sitter is enhanced by Rambert’s sparing use of bright colors. This image fairly revels in the ability of the Autochrome process to capture fine details, showing off the pattern of the tablecloth, the delicate stitching of the lace on the sitter’s sleeve, and even the weave of the chair-back.
