Of Bricks & Light: Grand Vistas

Fratelli Alinari, Italy (?): Piazza di Campidoglio, Rome. Albumen print, circa 1890

The three Alinari brothers (Leopoldo, Romualdo and Giuseppe) began a photographic business in 1854 that survives to this day in the form of the Alinari Archive. The Alinaris conducted a thriving trade in the sale of architectural views and photographs of art, selling their products to travelers making the Grand Tour.
