The unfinished monastery of the Dominicans at Batalha is considered one of the world’s most important historical sites. It was built to commemorate the victory of the Portugese over the Castilians in a 1385 battle. The monastery is regarded as a masterpiece of the Gothic decorative style known as “Manueline.”
