Stiff… formal…harsh. Is that your view of old photographs? “AT EASE” shows a surprisingly different side to some of the earliest portrait photographs: it’s a selection of daguerreotypes from around 1850 with wonderfully relaxed, cordial attitudes.

SMALL WORLDS
THE ART of the CARTE DE VISITE
These small card photographs–in a format generally used for portraits–pack a lot of visual punch in a very small space. This interactive exhibit includes interiors, groups, landscapes and pioneering photojournalism from the 1860s and 1870s.

Some of our favorite images and newest discoveries are featured in this changing exhibit. Currently on view: Dramatic landscapes… three unusual images commenting on the roles of women… and a tintype of a man putting his best feet forward.
