Woman Sweeping Floor near Seated Child

There is something enigmatic about this image; the cheerful sweeper appears to be ignoring the seated boy. Perhaps this is not a portrait of a mother and child, but an occupational portrait of a woman whose job was to clean the photographer’s studio.
